There have been various architectural styles which have greatly influenced homes around San Jose. Some of these styles became so prevalent, that they have added to the character of the city. Spanish Revival homes are on such style. One hundred years ago this distinctive style of homes came to San Jose through the designs of the masterful architectural firm Wolfe & Higgins.
Many Wolfe & Higgins Spanish Revival homes are located within Rose Garden and Willow Glen, and other historical San Jose neighborhoods. Most of these homes have been in private hands, with very few opportunities presented for the public to to get an up-close look into these spectacular homes. All that is about to change. Coming up Saturday, August 26th, the Preservation Action Council of San Jose (PACSJ) is sponsoring a special access tour of 8 Spanish Revival Homes.
The City-Wide Historic Open Home Tour is a key event to help raise funds to benefit PACSJ, which aims to keep alive the history of California’s oldest City. In addition to the tour, tickets are available for the kickoff party, being held on August 25th at historic Gross-Low House, a Dutch Colonial Revival house designed by William Ernest Higgins.
With the City-Wide Historic Home Tour, guests will see the fine details which are prominent in Spanish Revival design. Elements such as arched windows, ornate door frames, red-tiled roofs, and plenty of wrought iron accents are found throughout these distinctive homes. You can connect with a piece of our past on this home tour, and perhaps find a bit of inspiration for your own home too.
