According to the survey by the HBA, 50% of the people polled indicated that energy efficiency topped the list of priorities when it came to purchasing a home or beginning any remodeling projects. Just as important as listing your home’s energy efficient features, is how you word them. 68% of the survey participants noted they felt more value was added to a home described as eco-friendly as opposed to being labeled a “green’ building. Similar results came with the terms green-conscious and environmentally friendly, which was preferred by 81% of the respondents.
When it comes to describing how the energy efficient features of your home operate, the survey reported that terms such as water-saving are received better than “low-flow”, and more value is found in describing a home as comfortable instead of “livable”. With over 80% of respondents preferring these terms, using them as applicable in your listing will help get your home noticed while it’s on the market.
